Unrated | 1958 | 1h 34min Celebrate Nova Scotia Polish Heritage Month with the beloved classic film, Ewa chce spać (Eva Wants to Sleep). Seventeen-year-old Ewa arrives in a strange little town the night before school begins, finds the dormitory doors locked against her, and spends the whole night simply trying to find somewhere to sleep. What she wanders into instead is a dreamlike city of bumbling policemen, unfailingly polite thieves and small absurd miracles-the kind of whimsical, big-hearted charm you'd recognize from Amélie or the comedies of Jacques Tati. This black-and-white film is a treasure of European comedy-a reminder that not all the great screen laughs came out of Hollywood. In Polish with English subtitles. In partnership with the Polish Canadian Society of Nova Scotia and the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Montreal
